Luke Talbot, C.E.O. and Founder

Luke Talbot, C.E.O. and Founder

Hey folks... I'm Luke Talbott, recovering fifth grade teacher who started an outdoor adventure company in North Bend, WA. We've been around for ten years and have run programs with thousands of kids and adults, getting them outside, active, and totally engaged.

Without exception, our secret sauce is our awesome staff. I've hired folks form all walks of life with all kinds of backgrounds. People who were in my fifth grade classes (Jane), who've worked in restaurants, (Forrestt and Tom) who've taught in the classroom, (Nate and Emily) who've lived in vans. (Darryl and Kyle). Actually, I'm guessing that every one of our staff have either lived in, or want to live in a van. Yep... all of 'em.

The common focus is that they're all passionate, they know how to hustle, and they know how to have a good time. We hear it from our corporate clients, we hear it from parents, we hear it from kids. "The Compass Staff had everything dialed, were a blast to hang out with, and really knew what they were doing."

I'm looking for some more rockstars. People who are not afraid of, but excited to, get dirty. People who will put in their blood, sweat, and tears to help build this company into what we really believe it can be. An amazing outdoor community and hub that gets people moving, engaged, and excited about adventuring in the outdoors.

This job is NOT easy. We run about 120 miles an hour all season long. But I guarantee you'll have a great time. You'll learn a ton of new skills, and get to do something different every single day. Keep in mind that while you're applying for a specific job, you'll need to be fluid; you may wrench on a bike this morning, drive a shuttle this afternoon, get paid to play cornhole, and pour a beer in the evening.

If you are interested in joining our amazing crew this season send me a cover letter and resume to  info@compassoutdooradventures

Shop Wrenches and Gearheads

We rented out over 800 bikes last year and put over 2000 butts on bikes overall. The grins, smiles, and high fives were plentiful. None of that can happen without an amazing shop staff. We're hiring at least two, maybe three, trained mechanics/logistics folks to our staff. You need to know basic mountain bike maintenance and ideally, have wrenching experience at a local shop. This job is fast paced, fun, and dirty all at the same time. We are hiring for both full (30-40hr) and part time (20-30hr) positions based on experience.

  • 18+ years of age

  • Reliable vehicle and mountain bike

  • Experience wrenching in a bike shop

  • First Aid and CPR (you'll probably get to ride/shuttle/test bikes at some point during your day)

  • Clean Driver's License (we deliver bikes to the trailhead)

  • Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge (check fluids, tire pressure, etc)

  • Navigation skills and knowledge of local-trail systems

  • Ability to lift 75+ pounds (you'll be lugging gear all the time)

These positions will start out seasonally but we're always looking for the right people to continue on full time throughout the winter.

Benefits also include pro deal purchases through Compass accounts.  Wages determined based on experience.

Lead Adventure Guides

Compass Lead Guides will help lead our overnight camp programs during the week and some of our consumer adventures during the weekend. You must be physically active, knowledgeable about the area, and ready for any adventure. This job is typically between 30 and 40 hours a week.

  • Reliable vehicle and mountain bike

  • At least 3 years of experience working with kids

  • Outdoor Ed Experience

  • First Aid and CPR

  • Clean Driver's License

  • Ability to lift 75+ pounds (you'll be lugging bikes and gear all the time)

As a Compass Lead Camp Guide you will be on a fixed schedule for the season. Some camps may be overnight, Monday through Friday. This seasonal position will be from June 1st through to September 1st but will have options to run through October.

Mtn Bike Guides and Corporate Gurus

Compass is growing both in new consumer events as well as its existing corporate programs, and we're looking for like minded, active, and adventurous folks to join the team. These roles are specifically designed to have folks join our team to support our consumer programming and/or help out during corporate events. As very part time positions these are a fun way to get your foot in the door to guiding and working in the outdoors with adults and families.

  • 21+ years of age

  • Reliable vehicle and mountain bike

  • At least 5 years riding mountain bikes for MTB guides

  • First Aid and CPR highly recommended

  • Clean Driver's License

  • Coaching / Guiding experience a plus

  • Navigation skills and knowledge of local trail-systems

  • Ability to lift 75+ pounds (you'll be lugging bikes and gear all the time)

With the way business is going, this can absolutely turn into more long term positions as programs open up. The ideal client has a full time job, wants to play with bikes, and ultimately get hired on full time as we keep growing.
